1972 Porsche 914

Disassembly - Part 2 - Rear Trunk

6/24/2005

Removed the following today...

bulletTrunk lid
bulletTail lights
bulletTool case hardware?
bulletTrunk light
bulletPlastic sleeves from harness hold downs
bulletCups for Target top hardware
bulletBroken Targa top holder

Basically, anything and everything in the rear trunk.  I think there may be some plastic plugs left that need to be removed.

Photos...

Right tail light

Top right trunk area (note old rubber cap on shock tower.  It is torn)

Top left trunk area.

Bottom right trunk area (Note that you can just make out the stamped body number).  Need to cut this out and keep for later on.

Left tail light.  Inside view.

Trunk latch.  Don't think I have a photo of the lock.  But it was complete.

Right tail light.  Inside view.

Engine lid.  Note that it was held together with a scissor clamp.  :)

Removed the tail lights from the car.  Generally in good shape.  The wiring harness for this area has been totally butchered by a previous owner.  I suspect he had a short or break somewhere and cut it up to find it.  The wires for the license plate light is missing or have been cut off.

Note how the red has worn off?  Was that spray on paint or something else?  There also looks to be slots that something can slide into above and below the main light.  Since it is missing it has overheated and cracked the black plastic above the light.

All of the hardware including the lock.  I think it was a 32mm socket was used to unscrew the lock.

Packaging up misc. stuff and needed to document the trunk hinges.
