1972 Porsche 914

Introduction - Part 2 - Getting the car home

8/15/2005

Jason Panciera (who had known about the car and put me in touch with the owner) had offered to help get the car home.  We used his tow setup that he uses for his 914 to get mine home.  We loaded up the car on the trailer and filled up my Honda Odyssey with all of the extra parts that came with the car.

I took it as a good sign that as on the way home I noticed a white 914 traveling in the opposite direction on I-540.  This is the first time in probably over a year or more that I have seen a 914 on the road outside of at an Autocross!

The quick and dirty inventory of extra parts is...

bulletTwo Type IV engines (1.7 or 1.8).  One disassembled.  The other mostly complete but has been sitting outside for an undetermined time.
bulletA busted up 916 style fiberglass front bumper.
bulletBox of brake calipers
bullet4 Steel wheels
bullet4 Solid rotors
bulletTwo rear trailing arms
bulletGearset and intermediate plate from a transmission
bulletVarious gasket kits (paper, etc.)
bullet2 sets of wiper linkage
bullet1 Targa top
bulletTwo door windows
bullet4 drive shafts
bulletA/C unit (including under-dash part)
bulletRear sprints and shocks
bulletMisc. other stuff.

Once I do a complete inventory, I will decide what I am going to keep and what is going to go.  I have already tossed the 916 bumper as it was pretty broken up.  I expect I am going to sell the A/C unit.

I didn't have the camera with me so, I didn't get any shots of it on the trailer.  As the car needs a lot of work, I did a small victor drive down to the end of the block and back and then parked the car.  This will probably be the only time it runs under it's own power for a year or more!

All of the stuff in the back of the Odyssey.

Another shot of the Odyssey.

Unloaded in scattered all over the garage floor.  It was hot, late and I wanted to get it unloaded, cleaned up and in bed!

More on the garage floor.
